Issan Ghazni shared a meal with homeless people at the Northampton Bangladeshi Association at an all-day event. Food was donated by local restaurants.
Speaking to the organisers afterwards he said this was a great initiative to build community relations.
Issan Ghazni added that it was important Liberal Democrats engaged with all communities, including those that do not normally vote Lib Dem, in order to get Bill Newton Dunn re-elected as East Midlands MEP.
He said: "Some of the homeless people I met said themselves that they were pleased the Northampton Bangladeshi Association put on this Christmas dinner for them and that it helped build understanding between communities.
"Bill Newton Dunn has a great track record of engaging widely but as Liberal Democrats we all need to be doing this more."
Ghazni said that the European Union played a vital role in boosting regional job creation and that Lib Dem MEPs will fight hard to make sure structural funds are used to tackle unemployment and homelessness.
"Europe might seem distant from the social issues we face in Britain but through greater economic co-operation we can tackle this with more job creation and skills training.
"The saying 'In Europe, In Work' is especially relevant when we look at the issue of homelessness and how jobs can break this cycle of deprivation."
Ghazni thanked the Northampton Bangladeshi Association and chairman, Mr Zaman, and was pleased to hear of their plans to organise more meals for the homeless including during Eid later this year.
