East Midlands Euro candidate Issan Ghazni said he was delighted to have been asked to address the congregation at a Mosque in Corby ahead of Friday prayers.

Afterwards the Imam and Chair of the Corby Muslim Association presented Ghazni with flowers.

"I was given a very warm welcome", he said, "And I was really honoured to have been invited to speak before prayers as this is normally reserved for special announcements and is very much a sacred time.

"I was also pleased that key figures at the mosque were impressed by the Lib Dem's position on Europe.

"It is important to spread the message about the positive impact that Europe has on jobs and the economy.

"We have, in Bill Newton Dunn, an MEP who fights to get EU funds into the East Midlands and it is crucial we get him re-elected in May 2014.

"In order to re-elect him we Lib Dems need to connect with everyone in our diverse community. Bill does this well but we all need to do more."

Addressing the congregation Ghazni spoke about how the Lib Dems are the only party positive about Europe, which was important because there is a lot of regeneration funds which can benefit local people that we need to access.

He said the party will continue to develop good relations with the EU to create local jobs and boost the regional economy.

When UKIP, the Conservatives and often Labour are hostile about Europe this damages the interests of the East Midlands, so it is vital people who see the benefits of constructive engagement get out and vote, he added.
