Bassetlaw AGM

Members of Bassetlaw and Sherwood Liberal Democrats with Euro Candidate Issan Ghazni and Regional Chair Tony Rogers

After the business part of the meeting, Issan Ghazni, no 2 on the East Midlands Liberal Democrat list for the European Elections, spoke about why he is proud to be a Liberal Democrat and why, as a committed European, we should be critical friends of the EU, "We should not shy away from criticising the EU where it needs to change".

Tony Rogers, Chair of the East Midlands Liberal Democrat and former Parliamentary candidate in Totnes & Chesterfield also spoke. He reminded us that it was the Liberals that built the first Council Houses, it was the Liberals that introduced the Welfare State with pensions & benefits and, while it was the Atlee Labour Government that introduced it, the NHS was the brainchild of the Liberal William Beveridge.

Mark Hunter was elected Chair of the local party for the coming year, with Leon Duveen as Vice Chair, Peter Thompson as Treasurer and Jennie Coggles as Secretary
