The Regional Conference is only days away and details of the structure for the Policy Debates has been confirmed by Regional Policy Officer Phil Knowles.Gainsborough will see a full 90 minutes dedicated to the subjects for discussion and it will be the delegates on the day who will decide what will be debated.
Policy Proposal 5 - Motion for the election of a Federal Negotiation Committee - proposed by Amber Valley is confirmed as the opening debate but the decision regarding what else will be debated will be decided by Delegates who will be invited on arrival in Gainsborough to vote for their preferred topics.
Phil Knowles said
'' I am very grateful to Joan Garrity for ensuring that we have a full one and a half hours for what is very much the life blood of our party, open and free debate. Each motion selected will have 5 minutes allocated to the proposer to introduce the item with the seconder given the same length of time to summarise at the end. Speakers will be offered the opportunity to speak for three minutes on the subject though this may need to be reduced if there are a considerable number of speakers.
We are hopeful that we will have at least 4 items debated and the decision on what they will be rests in the hands of delegates. A complete list of motions are available to download at end of this article so they can be viewed privately on the website by members . This will give delegates the opportunity to study the subjects before arrival at conference and will hopefully encourage additional numbers of members to come along to Regional Conference and get involved''
Phil added
'' I would like to place on record my thanks to all who have taken the time to submit motions and to remind members that if there is something that comes up which could be regarded as the subject for an Emergency Motion that opportunity is still very much available.
For an Emergency Motion the rules are simple. It must be something that is of major importance and could not have been known about before the deadline for submission of a motion in the normal way. Should such a motion(s) be submitted the final decision on acceptance will rest with The Regional Party President Stuart Bray. Regional Chairman Tony Rogers and Conference Chair Joan Garrity''
Hope to see you in Gainsborough!
