High Peak Liberal DemocratsThe meeting came ahead of the Lib Dems' "Why I Am In" campaign which emphasises the importance of staying in Europe to boost economic growth and jobs in Britain.
Issan Ghazni, who is second on the regional Euro list, was joined by fellow Euro candidate Deborah Newton-Cook. They both talked about the need to tackle head-on the myths perpetrated by UKIP.
Myths include scaremongering about a 'Euro superstate'. Ghazni said that such talk was not only untrue but was meant to overshadow the positive contribution of Europe to Britain on workplace rights, human rights, and trade.
He said: "Over three million jobs depend on exports to the EU, and many industries in the East Midlands rely heavily on this. When you also consider how European investment can boost regeneration it is particularly important we stay in to fight for the best possible deal for the region."
Ghazni also discussed developing a special Euro campaign plan with the Nottingham party.
He offered to help any local party in the East Midlands, and said that fundraising and telephone canvassing would play a vital role in the run-up to the May 2014 election.
