Urgent support needed in the Centenary Commemoration year of WW1.

Councillors Barbara Johnson, Sarah Hill and East Midlands European Spokesperson Cllr Phil Knowles have launched a petition calling on the NHS to protect the special Market Harborough Coventry Road Hospital War Memorial & Portico, to safely move it to an agreed new home and to secure the funding for its future upkeep.

For years the clear understanding was that once the Hospital site was sold and services moved to the 'New Harborough Hospital' the cost of re-homing the War Memorial and Portico would be met by the NHS but emerging news seems to indicate that the funding allocation has been removed from the NHS budget for the 'New Hospital project'

'' The NHS, we feel, needs to accept its responsibilities in this matter. We are making the petition available both in paper form and electronically and hope that everyone will sign to show their support for this campaign. The NHS may feel they can ignore the matter and it will simply go away, perhaps a significant number of signatures showing the public feeling in what is the centenary commemoration year of WW1 will force our message home.

The Memorial and Portico demands respect as a memorial and respect for those who have their names recorded there. Norman Lamb MP visited the site when he visited Harborough and Bill Newton Dunn MEP has also been along to see the Memorial and Portico. The important thing now, as many as people as possible add their names to the electronic version of the petition at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/war-memorial-MH-hospital ''
