High Peak Liberal DemocratsAndrew Stunell MP signed up to the Keep Me Posted campaign in Parliament this week.
"Not everyone has gone digital yet, so we need companies to keep the option of paper bills at no extra charge for all those without access to the internet or with poor digital skills, to make sure they aren't put at a disadvantage."
Andrew has joined campaigning MPs who are calling for firms to promise they won't charge customers extra for information they send by post.
Andrew said -
"It is important that people can choose how they receive important financial information from service providers like banks and utility companies. Customers should be entitled to free paper statements as part of the standard service they receive."
"Firms which offer a discount for on-line mailings are in reality charging extra to hardworking individuals who either don't have online skills, cannot afford computers or broadband, or are unable to manage their affairs online for various reasons. That is an extra cost paid by some of the most vulnerable. It's unfair and it's time to stop this creeping discrimination."
The Keep Me Posted campaign says it is every consumer's right to choose, without disadvantage, how they are contacted by banks and financial service companies, utility companies, and other service providers.
Andrew has signed the Keep Me Posted's Early Day Motion 554 which pushes for organisations to make paper bills available as well as digital and pushes the Government to take this point on board.
