High Peak Liberal DemocratsAndrew Stunell MP and Lisa Smart attended Stockport's apprenticeship fair yesterday at the Town Hall to help support the take up of apprenticeships by young people in Stockport, during National Apprenticeship Week 3rd-9th March 2014.
The event co-coincided with the launch of Stockport's 50:50 Apprenticeship Scheme 2014. The scheme offers 50 grants of £1,000 to employers who take on a 16-18 year old Stockport resident who is not currently in education, employment or training.
Commenting, Andrew said -
"This is a great scheme where the Council tops up the help for employers already available from the government when they take on a new Stockport apprentice. It is first come first served for the top-up grants, so I would strongly encourage companies thinking about taking the plunge to do so straight away.'
Lisa Smart, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Hazel Grove, said -
"It was great to see so many young people and employers at the Town Hall yesterday. Apprenticeships really are a great way for young people to get prepared for the world of work and to get a foot onto their career ladder, and it also brings clear benefits to the employers that take them on so it's a win-win situation!"
