High Peak Liberal DemocratsAndrew Stunell MP welcomed improving job figures as 'great news'. Official figures show that in Hazel Grove constituency nearly 250 more people now have a job compared to a year ago, and over 40 new jobs have been created in the last month.
Commenting, Andrew said -
"This is very good news. We now have more people in jobs and more young people on apprenticeships than ever before. The take-up by Stockport companies of my apprenticeship challenge has been spectacular as well: I'm looking for even more this year."
Lisa Smart, Parliamentary Candidate for Hazel Grove, said -
"Another drop in unemployment locally is brilliant news! Of course the growth in apprenticeships in Stockport will have given a huge boost to our local employment rate
I've seen firsthand the benefits of taking on a young apprentice, through hiring Conor in our Romiley office."
"He's a huge help and really eager to learn. I'd really recommend all Stockport employers to consider taking on an apprentice and do their bit to help our young people into work."
The number of unemployed claimants in Hazel Grove constituency in February 2014 was 1,116, a rate of 2.9%, one of the best in Greater Manchester.
The number of claimants is 247 lower than in February 2013 and 43 lower than in January 2014, according to the Office of National Statistics.
Nationally there has been an increase of 1,308,000 jobs since 2010, with full time employment up 457,000 in the last year.
"This recovery would not be happening without the Liberal Democrats. We are continuing to work in Government to build a stronger economy and a fairer society," says Andrew.
