High Peak Liberal DemocratsThe Office of National Statistics latest unemployment figures show that unemployment in Cheadle constituency continues fall, dropping to 854 claimants in March 2014.
The current rate is 217 lower than in March 2013 and 70 fewer than in February 2014, and represents a rate of 1.9% of economic active population - one of the lowest figures in the North West region.
Local MP, Mark Hunter, commenting on the latest statistics said:
'I know local residents will share my delight that unemployment in our area continues to fall, but clearly we all want to see the numbers fall even further. The good news is that the UK's economy is growing, 0.3% in 2013, 1.9% last year, and the IMF is forecasting growth of 2.9% this year. The stronger our economy, the more jobs there will be.
'The Lib Dems, as part of the Coalition Government, have helped to create 1.5 million extra jobs since 2010, and we've supported young people by encouraging businesses to take on 1.6 million new apprenticeships; we are building a stronger economy and a fairer society.'
