The big environmental challenges are a responsibility of European Union with the need and opportunity for the member states to work collectively. That's the view of East Midlands European Spokesperson Cllr Phil Knowles"Climate change and factors that contribute to this don't recognise borders. What we do has the ability to impact on our neighbours just as their actions have the ability to influence our daily lives. It is important that we are at the heart of the decision making process by being at the heart of the European Union. This will enable us to influence our neighbours and, just as important, as part of this major grouping, will ensure that we speak from a position of collective strength on the world wide stage.
"Countries such as China, USA, India and Brazil respect the UK and will surely be appreciative of the UK being at the decision table as part of the EU as the world looks to address emissions, industrial and domestic. The discussion about agriculture, water, fishing and much more. Our planet needs a voice at the world negotiating table and the Liberal Democrats, through the European Parliament, have the strength and commitment to be that voice'
