Pro European MEP's must work together to secure Britain's influence in the European ParliamentCllr Phil Knowles (East Midlands European Spokesperson) has backed the call by MEP Catherine Bearder for Pro European MEP's to work together to secure Britain's influence in the European Parliament.
''We can't allow the British voice to be weakened in Europe. We need to seek reforms with Britain at the heart of debate and decision making'' said Cllr Phil Knowles.
He continued ''Yes we will need to compromise on occasions but we can't just sleep walk out of Europe, neither can we simply throw the toys out of the pram at every hurdle. Britain is the third largest country in Europe by way of population, it is vital we ensure that we protect our opportunities to influence EU policy and law making.
"We need to remember that there are a great number of MEP's within the European Parliament who have indicated their commitment to seeing Britain remaining part of the EU. Catherine has the skill, ability and commitment to grasp the chance to work with these Pro European MEP's to ensure a strong voice for Britain over the next five years. Catherine will be a real champion for change, where possible building alliances rather than creating division. She will be a strong voice for Britain from within to secure our place at the top table. Catherine will not be a negative voice shouting from the side lines''
