Regional Policy Officer Phil Knowles has announced the dates and format for submissions of items for possible inclusion in the Policy Debate Slots.
Motions, complete with Proposer and Seconder can be submitted by email to Phil from September 1st 2014 with a closing date for submissions of noon on Tuesday October 14th.
" The Policy debates have become a key part of the Regional Conferences and no doubt we can expect quite a range of issues to be put forward for delegates to consider at the Hinckley event.
The deadline of Tuesday October 14th has been set to ensure we have adequate time to publicise the motions, to print the agenda for November 1st and importantly to prepare ballot papers for attending delegates. Members attending the conference will be asked to vote on the proposed motions in order to select the motions they would like to debate.
Importantly we will still retain the ability to take any urgent motions should something major happen.
Any urgent item will need to be something that could not have been known about prior to the October 14th deadline. If an urgent item is received that will be referred to the Regional President, Chairman and Conference Organiser for consideration. Subject to their acceptance then the emergency item will be automatically listed for debate''
It has also emerged that this will be Phil's last Regional Conference as Policy Officer. '' I have been privileged to act as Regional Policy Officer for several years and am delighted at the way the debating of Policy has grown. It really has become a major part of Regional Conferences with more and more members joining the discussions at each event. I am so very grateful for the support that members have given to me.
I want to place on record my sincere thanks. This is the right time to pass on this very important post. I hope to continue serving the Region as a member of Executive.'' - Phil
