High Peak Liberal DemocratsHarborough's 3000 plus signature Petition calling on NHS England to protect the World War One Memorial and Portico currently housed at the Cottage Hospital in Market Harborough, fund the move to a new site and guarantee the upkeep and maintenance is on its way to NHS England CEO Mr Simon Stevens.
In a cover document accompanying the petition Cllr Phil Knowles has called on Mr Stevens not only back the Community and see the Memorial & Portico protected and its future funding secured but to also take a personal interest in seeing the long promised 'new' Community Hospital for Harborough delivered.
''We understand that the NHS England Board meets in September and have taken steps to ensure that the CEO has the petition in advance of that meeting. We have also taken the opportunity to invite Mr Stevens or any of the other Board Members from NHS England to visit Harborough.
I'm sure that seeing the Memorial and Portico would underline to Mr Stevens and his colleagues all the reasons why its held in such high regard by the community. At the same time offering the opportunity for them to hear at first hand about the catalogue of broken promises would I hope secure their support to see this whole scheme finally and totally delivered for the community.'' - Cllr Phil Knowles
