High Peak Liberal Democrats
Last week, Bassetlaw's new Lib Dem PPC Leon Duveen made history at the Party Conference in Glasgow. By speaking in the "Adapting to Climate Change" debate, Leon Duveen became the first Lib Dem from Bassetlaw to speak at Conference. In his speech, Leon said the "The risk of the approach outlined in the motion is that it will lull many in to a false sense of security".
He also spoke about the need not to forget that dealing with the causes of Climate Change is just as important and taking measures to combat it's effects ". . . we must also make every effort to move the UK and the rest of the world away from carbon based energy sources otherwise we will be fighting a losing battle against ever increasing global temperatures resulting in higher sea levels, more severe storms and the need for even more defences." He went onto state that Fracking was not the solution "however good the regulation may be".
The full text of his speech is available on line here.
