High Peak Liberal DemocratsA further steep fall in unemployment across the Hazel Grove constituency recorded last month shows the economic recovery is taking hold in Stockport, according to local MP Andrew Stunell.
Lisa Smart, Prospective MP for Hazel Grove said:
"Unemployment has dropped by 330 in the last year, and our constituency rate is down to just 2.3%. That is fantastic news, and shows that the positive steps Liberal Democrats in Government have taken to clean up Labour's economic mess are really paying off. I am delighted that our huge investment in apprenticeships, and the raising of the income tax threshold to £10,000 are helping to boost these figures."
Andrew Stunell said:
"The most impressive thing is that youth unemployment across our area has been cut in half since the General Election. That's now down to 4.1%.
"The Liberal Democrats have taken the right steps to ensure our labour market is fair and flexible - delivering opportunity for everyone and preventing exploitation of the most vulnerable.
"The employment growth that we are now witnessing is one of this Government's key achievements. Every job created is a family made more secure and is another step towards the stronger economy and fairer society that Liberal Democrats are committed to building."
In the latest figures published this week unemployment fell in the quarter to August by 154,000 to under 2 million nationally, the largest fall in unemployment since records began. In the last twelve months unemployment dropped by 538,000 - the largest annual fall on record.
