High Peak Liberal DemocratsRemembrance Sunday services were held throughout Cheadle constituency as local residents paid their respects to servicemen and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
There were well-attended ceremonies in Bramhall, Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Gatley, Heald Green and Woodford as wreaths were laid at community's war memorials.
The ceremonies paid special attention to those who died or suffered injury from the First World War during this, the centenary year of the conflict's beginning in 1914. Over 2000 of those who answered the call from the towns that make up today's Stockport borough during the Great War never returned to their families.
Local Member of Parliament, Mark Hunter, attended three of the ceremonies locally and was represented at others. Commenting afterwards he said:
'Every year local residents turn out in great numbers to remember those who gave their today for our tomorrows. We will remember those who gave their lives to enable us to live in freedom; we all owe them a great debt.
'Credit as ever to the local Royal British Legion who always organise the ceremonies and support the wider community to pay their respects.'
