High Peak Liberal DemocratsLisa Smart, Prospective MP for Hazel Grove, & Andrew Stunell MP welcomed the news that 2 million apprenticeships have been created across the country since 2010, with over 10,000 of them being created in Stockport alone.
Commenting Lisa Smart, Prospective MP for Hazel Grove, said -
"Creating well over 10,000 apprenticeships here in Stockport since 2010 is just fantastic news for our young people and a huge achievement. Apprenticeships are a great way of training up our young people, preparing them for the world of work and helping them get their foot in the door of their chosen career, whilst benefitting our local businesses - a win-win situation all round! Liberal Democrats understand this, which is why we have pushed the apprenticeships drive in Government and delivered 2 million apprenticeships nationwide as a result."
"More and more young people in Stockport are choosing this path into their career and more and more Stockport businesses are jumping on board. We even hired our very own apprentice, Conor, in our Romiley office who is a huge help. I really hope more and more businesses catch the 'apprenticeship fever' like we have and take on more Stockport apprentices in 2015!"
In Stockport, youth unemployment has fallen by half since 2010, Stockport Council was ranked in the top 100 employers for apprenticeships in England and the country's first Apprenticeship Store was opened in Stockport Exchange.
Andrew Stunell MP said -
"National surveys show an employer gets an average £214 of added value a week from every apprentice taken on. And now there is no National Insurance to pay for apprentices under 25 it is even more of a no-brainer. I'm delighted with the fantastic local take up, but there are still many firms who are missing out, and plenty of young people eager to learn new skills and get into employment. If you're interested in taking on an apprentice get in touch with Alison Cresswell at the Council on 0161 474 2350 to find out more."
Lisa and Andrew will both be backing National Apprentice Week in March, with the aim of setting new records for Stockport apprenticeship recruitment for the third year running.
