High Peak Liberal DemocratsTwo local MPs have joined forces in Parliament to get the notorious 'Pacer' trains scrapped, and replaced by newer, safer and more accessible trains on commuter routes through Stockport.
Commenting, Hazel Grove MP Andrew Stunell said -
"These rickety old trains are years past their sell-by date. Passengers on the Marple and Buxton lines deserve better. I want the Chancellor to go beyond the nods and winks of the Autumn Statement and commit to scrapping them altogether without any further delay."
Cheadle MP Mark Hunter said -
"It is farcical that these trains are still deemed suitable. The people of Stockport pay hard-earned money to use local transport routes and should not be forced to accept second best any longer."
A Parliamentary motion, Early Day Motion 640 - Replacement of Pacer Train Rolling Stock, urges the Government to make the replacement of Pacer trains a requirement of all invitations to tender for the next Northern and Trans-Pennine Express rail franchises.
Liberal Democrats Mark Hunter, MP for Cheadle, and Andrew Stunell, MP for Hazel Grove, are signatories to the motion.
