High Peak Liberal DemocratsMark Hunter, local MP for Cheadle constituency, met with 1st Cheadle Hulme Scout Troop last Friday 9th January to support the older members in their efforts to gain one of Scouting's highest accolade, the Chief Scout's Award.
Eleven Scouts, aged 13-14 years, have completed a series of challenges to complete the Award including a 3D printing and design project, a back-packing hiking expedition, indoor climbing, air rifle target shooting, as well as camping trips. They have also researched the effects of poverty across the globe before presenting their findings as part of the Global Challenge.
A final section of the Award is the Community Challenge where one of the requirements is to learn about Parliament and Government. Mark Hunter joined the Troop to answer their questions and to share his insight into British politics.
Commenting afterwards Mark said:
'Thank you to 1st Cheadle Hulme Scouts for welcoming me to their meeting on Friday. I was not at all surprised by the extremely well-informed and probing questions put to me by Scouts and it was great to visit the Troop again. I wish them all the best in the last few tasks they need to accomplish before receiving the Chief Scout's Award.
'As a member of the All Party Parliamentary Scouting Group I have long supported the Scouting movement in Cheadle constituency. I cannot speak highly enough of the caring service that both the leaders and the scouts provide for our local community. '
