High Peak Liberal DemocratsOne of the common complaints I get as I am out campaigning in Worksop and in Retford is why isn't the District Council more responsive to the wishes of the local people. One of the reason is that neither town, alone among all the communities in Bassetlaw, have a local (Parish or Town) council to look after local issues. What has happened in Harworth (and Gainsborough, Newark, Southwell, Bingham and many more) show that local people can take control of their town's future and make a real difference.
The news that iGas are planning to start drilling a test bore at Misson Springs to see if there is enough shale gas to make fracking worthwhile is disturbing and I hope the County Council throw out the planning application. With the fall in international oil and gas prices, the economics of fracking makes even less sense, let alone the environmental damage such activity does. Please support the Bassetlaw Against Fracking group in their campaign against this and all other such developments in our area.
I am supporting the Worksop Against Incineration group as well in their fight to stop the planned development on Shireoaks Road that will put well over half of Worksop under the threat of pollution from emissions.
The Party nationally have been highlighting our commitment to increase the status and the funding the NHS give to the care and treatment of those who suffer from Mental Health Issues. Here is the speech Nick Clegg gave today on this issue and I am sure you will agree with Nick that we need to invest to bring the care of those with Mental Health issues up to the standard we expect of other parts on the NHS.
