Rt Hon John Bercow MP, Speaker of the House of Commons said:
"School councils make valuable contributions to their communities, while giving students their first taste of democratic practice and the business of politics. The breadth and quality of the almost 400 projects submitted this year demonstrate the excellent work carried out by young people across the UK. As Speaker of the House of Commons I am proud to support the work of school councils in all their endeavours."
Sarah Rowlands, Inscape House School teacher, said:
"Applying for the Speaker's School Council Award was a further way of affirming that our young people within this Co-operative Academy are thinking about the well-being of others. They feel that they can make a difference to people's lives. Applying for the award has allowed them to look objectively at what they intended and what impact it has had so far. I am immensely proud of the contribution they make within the college and in the community. It is what social responsibility is about."
Mark Hunter, the local MP for Cheadle constituency, said:
"Many congratulations to Inscape House School for winning a Speaker's School Council Award, a tremendous achievement. I know from previous visits to Inscape House that pupils are passionate about raising awareness of autism, and their project "Auware" is a great way to do just that."
