Gainsborough Constituency Liberal Democrats are delighted to announce that Councillor Lesley Rollings is the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for the Gainsborough Constituency.Angela White, Chair of the Constituency Party, said "We have chosen one of our most active councillors to stand for Parliament in her home constituency. Lesley has a close understanding of rural and urban issues that concern people of all ages, but especially young people who are starting out on their working life. We feel that it is vitally important to have a candidate that has lived in the constituency for many years. ."
In accepting her party's nomination Councillor Rollings said that she was determined to represent this large rural constituency (455 square miles) by working to attract much needed inward investment to the area.
She said "Traditionally Governments have apportioned grants in a way that benefits cities at the expense of rural areas. We need to redress this imbalance."
Lesley is concerned that the NHS locally is cracking at the seems due to lack of investment in people and facilities. Lesley will fight for a better deal for the local NHS services.
She has organised a major conference to be held in Gainsborough in September which will draw in town and parish councils across Lincolnshire to consider better methods of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults .
Being a life long liberal minded person Lesley supports the Liberal Democrat aims of securing a stronger economy and a fairer society.
Lesley Rollings is the popular and well known West Lindsey District Councillor for Thonock Ward and Lincolnshire County Councillor for Scotter Rural Division.
She lives locally in Pilham where she is married with three children and works as a teacher and Community Manager at the Gainsborough Academy.
As Mayor of Gainsborough Town Council, she led a turnaround of the Council after the previous administration had mismanaged the Council by bringing it to the brink of bankruptcy. The Council now functions efficiently and represents the priorities and needs of the people of Gainsborough.
As the current Chair of Community Services Committee at Gainsborough Town Council, Lesley is already working to create a framework involving business and the community that will bring economic benefits to the Gainsborough and surrounding villages.
Lesley's passion for the areas she represents and her proven track record of working within the local community makes her the ideal candidate to become the next Member of Parliament for the Gainsborough Constituency
