High Peak Liberal Democrats
So the Right to Buy is alive and well and living in the Tory Election Manifesto. As Victor Meldrew famously said; "I don't believe it!" Will they never learn? The Thatcher version, laudable as it might have seemed to many in the 1980s, with councils being forced to apply receipts from the sale of houses at a knock down price to the payment of debt rather than to building new homes, not only severely reduced council housing stock but turned much of what was left into what was described by a former housing officer at the time as a 'stigmatised last resort'.
As the Iron Lady might not have said; "More council houses? Yes, yes, yes! More right to buy? No, no, no!"
