Rutland and Melton

We had some really encouraging local election results on Thursday in Rutland & Melton constituency

All 5 of our previous councillors comfortably returned: Simon Galton, Amanda Burrell & Peter Elliott in the 3 member Thurnby and Houghton ward of Harborough DC; Gale Waller for Normanton ward and Sam Asplin for Whissendine ward of Rutland CC. Sam's was the highlight - first elected in October 2014 with 192 votes and a majority of 13, this time with 511 votes and a majority of almost 250.

All of our other candidates in for Rutland and Harborough councils achieved significant numbers of votes with a couple of near misses in Rutland - Brenda Palmer at Langham ward and Joanna Burrows at Oakham North West. In all cases where we were up against UKIP candidates, we beat them which was good news too.

I hope there's a bit of good news in there.

High Peak

I've left it a few days to gather my thoughts but now I want to give thanks to everyone who voted for me and/or in anyway supported my campaign for the General, Borough and Parish elections.

I came 4th out of 5 candidates in the General Election http://www.highpeak.gov.uk/hp/your-council/election-results-2015/parliamentary-election-results-2015 which with the national vote share the way it was as good as I could have hoped for. It was disappointing though to be so close, 158 votes, from retaining my deposit.

I came 3rd out of 4 candidates in the Borough Election which I will not lie was disappointing, Winning was always going to be a challenge but to lose 2nd place was a blow. http://www.highpeak.gov.uk/hp/your-council/election-results-2015/borough-and-parish-election-results-2015

I was successful in re-election to the Parish Council however for which I am very grateful to the people of Charlesworth, coming 3rd out of 9 candidates (6 getting elected). I will continue to work hard to represent you all. http://www.highpeak.gov.uk/hp/your-council/election-results-2015/borough-and-parish-election-results-2015

Gainsborough

The count here is spread over three days so I will provide a full report after Saturday's count. However I can report we have 7 seats on West Lindsey DC (2011 we had 11, in 2012 we lost one seat following the death of our councillor). Two of our 7 Cllrs are new including party Chair Angela White.

In 2011 we bucked the trend by taking control of Gainsborough Town Council. At that time all 18 seats were contested and we won 12. This time only 7 seats are contested and we have already won 8 seats uncontested. The count for the contested seats takes place on Saturday. The arithmetic means we have already one at least 3 seats in this ward so that will give us a minimum of 11 seats. However we could possible end up with a total of 14 seats.
