High Peak Liberal Democrats
The Liberal Democrats will be Leaders not FollowersThe EU Referendum will take place in the matter of months and the East Midlands are well ahead of many other Regions in the preparation for what is a vitally important vote. Cllr Phil Knowles has been appointed by the Regional Executive to coordinate the campaign for the East Midlands and he has already been pushing forward with the task in hand.
From across the East Midlands members have been responding to the invitation to play an important part. Members have been contacting Phil Knowles indicating their willingness to get involved with the EU Referendum Campaign and plans are well advanced for the first conference call next week where plans will be discussed and information shared as to the current situation and ideas for the next few months.
''There is no doubt that this is a fight that we as a country and indeed as a party can ill afford to see lost. Huge amounts of our exports depend on the UK being at the heart of Europe. Three million plus UK jobs linked to our membership. Billions of pounds of EU grants and loans to British businesses and so much more.
"We will be in touch over the next few days to share details of the conference call number, time, agenda and date with the members who have expressed an interest to get involved. We have Catherine Bearder MEP here in the East Midlands in November for an all member event, I will be in Brussels in October for discussions on the Referendum and I have also been in touch with Senior Party figures in London but this is just the tip of the iceberg.
"We will be coordinating articles for inclusion in Focus. Press Releases, General Media Releases, Social Media releases, interviews and members/public meetings across the East Midlands. The East Midlands Regional Executive are determined that we are seen at the forefront of this campaign and that the Liberal Democrats will be leaders not followers."
Cllr Phil Knowles
