I hate to disabuse George Osborne; but allowing local councils to raise their Council Tax bills by 2% without going to a referendum will not help Social Care provision as far as my authority is concerned. In any case, we can already legally raise it by 1.99% without incurring his wrath. You see, even with a 2% rise, we, and I would think many similar authorities need that amount, and more, to get anywhere near the cuts that central government is expecting us to make over the next few years, before we even consider Social Care.
Now, if that figure were around 4% or even higher, we might be in business!
Yours,
Cllr John Marriott,
Lincolnshire County Council.
