"We have heard many of the arguments from the Outers, the Myths put forward to get us out of the EU but the Outers will not go unchallenged and in Derby on Jan 9th you can take your place in the team that will lead the challenge - The Myth Busters!
The Outers say the Economy will be better out! - Our Response, its Absolutely Not True. Because of the EU Households benefit by £3000 per year, 3 - 4 million jobs are directly and indirectly linked to our trade with the EU. A huge percentage of the UK's international exports are to EU countries.
The Outers say we don't need Europe we can just trade with Asia, the Far East and South America - Our Response, The Outers are WRONG! Senior Politicians from India call Britain the 'entry point into the EU' others say the UK does not need to make a choice as Commonwealth Countries would rather see the UK at the heart of the EU shaping the EU on a daily basis.
The Outers say the EU make 75% of our laws - Our Response - This is seemingly massively incorrect the figure is nearer 13%.
On January 9th, along side the speeches, our workshops will give more information on these three headlines used by the Outers. We want to give you the detail to bust these myths on the doorsteps and the many more myths that are being peddled . The Referendum date is unknown though many are speculating. From information I have received from being selected as a member of the National Steering Group and EU Referendum Champions I can confirm one thing. From the day the PM 'announces the Referendum' it will be16 weeks until we go to the Polls. We have to be ready when the 16 week clock starts ticking and the campaign steps up another gear.
The Rally in Derby will give us the Myth Busting Arguments and the All important Core Campaign Headliners which look likely to include Peace, Security and Climate. London and Brussels are working hard to have everything ready for Jan 9th so we can begin campaigning without any delay.
The East Midlands looks set to be the first Regional EU Referendum Rally anywhere in the UK. Catherine Bearder MEP will be in Derby to personally launch the Campaign and looks set to be accompanied by other key party spokespersons.
This really is the vote we cannot afford to see lost - not just for the Liberal Democrats but for the very future of our Country."
