High Peak Liberal Democrats
Many members, both old and new, turned out to close what has been a traumatic year for the Liberal Democrats on a more positive note at the AGM of the High Peak Lib Democrats.
Over a fine selection of ales, wines and mince pies reports were received from all Officers and Conference Representatives, recognising the disappointment at the May 2015 election results, but reporting a buoyant and determined mood at both regional and national conferences that followed the elections.
Excitingly the Membership secretary reported an increase of approximately 50% in membership since the General Election, with new members still joining, proving that the Liberal Democrat fightback is definitely still on!
The Treasurer reported a healthy bank balance, despite considerable expenditure during the year on Election costs, the current balance being only slightly down on that at the year end of 2014, thanks to donations and councillor contributions. Thanks were given to Andrew Garner for reviewing the accounts as a true and correct record.
County and Borough Councillors informed the meeting of key issues facing their respective councils over the coming year, in particular major issues involving healthcare, policing and public transport.
All officers were re-elected unanimously to serve for another year whilst new members were keen to join the Executive Committee and take on new responsibilities including those of Conference Representatives.
At the close all members attending were positive about the future of the Liberal Democrats locally and nationally, and were keen to build on the influx of new members, establish new Focus groups in those areas and fightback.
