High Peak Liberal DemocratsLiberal Democrat leader Tim Farron has written to the Prime Minister calling on him to formally announce the plan for the UK to offer refuge 3,000 unaccompanied children.
On Sunday, International Development Secretary Justine Greening told Sky News Britain's approach had 'evolved' and confirmed Britain was reviewing its response to what Save the Children and Tim have calculated are 3,000 children in Europe travelling without their parents.
This morning Tim wrote an open letter to Prime Minister calling for action. In his letter to the PM, he says, 'Given your extensive travel in Europe, I am surprised you have not yet taken the chance to visit the areas most affected by the refugee crisis. I urge you to visit the island of Lesbos, the borders of central Europe, or the camps in Calais at the next possible opportunity, after which I am sure you will have no hesitation in proceeding with Save the Children's campaign.'
Tim said:
"This weekend we saw the usual nod and winks from 'sources' and No10 stoking speculation that an announcement is coming. Every day the Government waits is another night that a child sleeps rough, in Europe, in sub zero temperatures.
"Britain must open its heart and open its doors to those in need. After much pressing the government now seem to agree - it's time to act."
