We've had our European referedum Campaign Launch, there have been been street stalls across the Region, we've had the motivational speech from Catherine Bearder MEP.
NOW is your chance to ask about how Europe really works at our our Euro Q&A session attended by Lib Dem Peer Baroness Bowles of Berkhamstead. Sharon Bowles was MEP for the South East England region from 2005-2015.
After the Q&A, Baroness Bowles will be joining in with our "Euro Messaging Session" that we are holding based on YOUR feedback, to create emotional messaging to use when campaigning on the doorstep.
Felix Dodds was National Chair of the Young Liberals 198587 and was one of the key people to bring green politics to the party. He is currently President of Amber Valley Liberal Democrats and has written or edited 15 books his first in 1988 was Into the 21st Century an Agenda for Political Realignment. He is currently a Senior Fellow at the Global research Institute and a Senior Affiliate at the Water Institute at the University of North Carolina. An interesting speaker given the stripping of green policies by our Conservative Government.
Alongside our Policy debates in the main hall, this Spring we are also hosting a Consultation on "Social Security" Policy. This is your opportunity to directly influence the working group putting together the Lib Dem response to Tory cuts in Benefits.
Liberal Democrats recently forced the Government to reverse their plans to cut tax credits. This would have left three million low-income people £1,000 worse off and hit working families hardest. We are fighting planned cuts to Universal Credit, which will have the same effect. How will low income families in the East Midlands cope?
A member of the party's Social Security Working Group will be running a debate session to help East Midlands members feed into its policymaking process. The group has been appointed by Federal Policy Committee to present comprehensive proposals to Autumn Conference 2016. The group's consultation paper can be read in advance here.
Our constitution commits us to fight for a society in which "no one shall be enslaved by poverty". Come to this session and help us in that fight.
Interactive session from Lib Dem Activist and published author Simon Foster based on ALDC Membership Recruitment Training.
Mary Reid is one of the editors on Liberal Democrat Voice and has much helpful advice for those wishing to get published. An active member in Kingston upon Thames, where she was a councillor for 13 years, and Chair of the local party. She is particularly interested in online campaigning, having designed websites for a number of MPs (when we had them) and provided training in blogging and social media. Beyond that, Mary is a member of the FCC and she also organises the annual conference for the Social Liberal Forum. Professionally, she has worked in education all her life, including teaching in an FE college and, most recently, writing educational books.
An overview of how we fight elections -and that is not by simply standing candidates and crossing our fingers, but by fighting elections hard, using methods that have been proven over and over again to work. If you are a Cllr; If you want to get elected as a Cllr; If you want to help others win... this is certainly worth attending.
What does it mean to be an agent? What are the responsibilities? This taster session gives a great overview of what being a campaign agent is all about, from the work involved to the legal requirements.
Experienced presenter, Pam Edwards, returns to Conference to pass on knowledge gained through years of presenting at many different levels. Do you have to make presentations as part of your job? Have you been called upon to educate or train? Perhaps you want to stand up and put forward a policy at a conference? Pam's interactive seminar will give you some great ideas that will help you do just that.
This session is designed to give all local parties, whatever their size, some ways of raising money to fund campaigns. Peter is an ex-Sheffield Steelworks MD who joined BTCV in the early eighties. BTCV (now TCV) became under Peter's leadership the UK's leading practical conservation charity, with a £26 million turnover, 500,000 volunteers and employing 850 staff by the late 1990's. Peter the BTCV group's CEO, was responsible for the overall income strategy which including fund-raising. Peter retired from BTCV in 2001 to establish his own successful consultancy company. Today he is a Parish Councillor in Blyth, a Regional Executive member and Treasurer of Bassetlaw and Sherwood Lib Dems. Interesting techniques for Local Parties to raise funds to run their campaigns.
