High Peak Liberal DemocratsAn academy chain has been accused of "segregating" disabled and special needs pupils after announcing it will bus them from its top school to a worse-performing institution six miles away.
The children were to attend Ashton on Mersey School, which has an "outstanding" rating with Ofsted, the schools regulator, is in an affluent Cheshire suburb and enjoys the sponsorship of Manchester United football club.
But while the children will be officially enrolled at the school, the Dean Trust plans to bus them to another of its schools in Partington, one of the most deprived areas in Greater Manchester.
