The Treaty of Lisbon governs the process for a member state to leave the EU.
In an article published this week the UK Constitutional Law Association discusses who can give formal notice to the EU of the UK's intention to withdraw under Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty. They argue that this right rests solely with parliament and not with the government as both a matter of UK and EU law. Now is the time to lobby your MP to vote against a hasty and irreversible triggering of Article 50.
