High Peak Liberal Democrats
Last week wrote about the Liberal Democrat plan to save our Green Belt, I wanted to send you some more details and let you know what we have been doing since then.
On Thursday the Liberal Democrat Group on Stockport Council put down an amendment to a report that would have seen Stockport opt out of the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework (the plan which wants to put 12,000 homes on Stockport's Green Belt including 4,000 homes on the Green Belt around High Lane) and instead pursue our own Stockport Local Plan which could better represent local needs. See the amendment here.
Stockport's Conservative and Labour Councillors joined together to block this plan and keep Stockport in the GMSF. Obviously we were dissapointed that other parties chose to oppose us rather than stand up for local people.
But we didn't give up. We started a petition and have already had more than 500 signatures, to show the other parties that local people want Stockport out of this crazy plan for our area. Sign it here and share it with you friends and family in our area.
It remains more important than ever that local people take part in the consultation to show our opposition to this innapropriate development on our Green Belt. Take part in the consultation here.
Once again thank you for your support,
Lisa Smart
