Helping Our Friends

This is the second of a series of postcards which Anita Day, Parliamentary Spokesperson for Grantham and Stamford has written to members and supporters

It will not have escaped your notice that there is a by-election in Sleaford & North Hykeham this Thursday! ;-

Coming so soon after Richmond Park (and indeed Witney), this is an amazing opportunity to show the world that the Liberal Democrats really are back with a vengeance.

Of course, it won't be as easy here in Lincolnshire. Sleaford and North Hykeham voted Leave with a clear majority, but canvassers are hearing encouraging comments that suggest that our messages on many topics are not falling on deaf ears, and people are particularly concerned about healthcare in Lincolnshire and the government's response to the Brexit vote.

Certainly, the campaigns of UKIP, the Tories and Labour look pretty lacklustre and have none of the passion and energy that ours has.

I was down at the Campaign HQ several times last week and I was struck by the spirit of camaraderie, fun and the sense of a shared mission. I will be going back again later today and Wednesday, but if you've never seen a campaign at close quarters, I would really recommend you making a trip and seeing it for yourself.

Plus, of course, they need our help…. In whatever capacity you can manage. Some people are helping out with admin tasks in the office or speaking to voters on the phone, but the biggest need is for people with cars who can deliver leaflets in target areas any time from now until Thursday morning. The thing I love about the Liberal Democrat party is that it feels like a fellowship of friends. And we must help our friends when we can….. because who knows when we might need to call on them to help us?! J
