They say that January is the most depressing time of the year, and this morning, as I contemplate my return to work after a lovely, nearly - 2 week break, I can believe it! I hope that, like me, you were able to spend an enjoyable time with family and friends without too much angst or squabbling, and that your waistline and liver are not suffering as much as mine. My diet started this morning, so I am sitting here downing glasses of water and feeling a little tetchy, but I know that things will improve!

One of the high-spots of the festive season was attending the Lib Dem Pint social which we held in Market Deeping on Fri 30 Dec. I got to know several people whom I had not met before - one was a long-standing member, councillor and veteran campaigner who was keen to get involved locally; one was a new member who had never been interested in politics but had joined us after the summer because she was so concerned for her children's future; yet another was a former Conservative party member who was thinking about joining the Lib Dems and perhaps standing as a parliamentary candidate one day! And one was Callum Robertson, a young man starting out on his political journey as our candidate in the Market Deeping Town Council election. Regardless of what had brought us there, what we all shared was a strong belief that we could not wait for others to do something about what is happening in our country… WE need to act, and NOW…. and, as always, I found that enthusiasm and commitment very inspiring.

If you were unable to join us last week, don't despair! We will shortly be announcing a schedule of Lib Dem Pints in Stamford, Bourne, Spalding, Swayfield and with the next one taking place in Grantham on 31 January, so please do come along to a future event to say hello and make some new friends.

And if you have an hour free this coming week, Callum would very much appreciate your help with delivering some leaflets around Market Deeping. Please contact Kathleen Tanner on 01778 343236 if you think you can get involved. Callum wants to join Adam Brookes, our existing Town Councillor, to expand his work on a much-needed town plan, covering housing, transport, healthcare and schools. The election is on 12 January, and turnout is expected to be low, so even a few votes could make the difference. Please help if you can.

Take care, and speak soon

Anita
