GUY KIDDEY, the Lib Dem prospective parliamentary candidate for High Peak, will run a carbon-neutral election campaign.

From the moment the campaign begins, Guy will record his car's pollution on his Twitter account (@guykiddey) and Facebook page (facebook.com/yourguyforhighpeak).

He will then personally donate funds to offset this pollution to the Woodland Trust, which is planting trees throughout the High Peak constituency.

Before the official campaign begins, Guy will tour the whole High Peak constituency by bicycle.

Planting trees in High Peak is essential not just for carbon capture, but also to protect against flooding in places like Whaley Bridge. Moss replanting serves the same purposes, and that's why it's a major part of the MoorLife 2020 project.

"MoorLife 2020 is about protecting the Pennines, and it's the UK's biggest-ever European-Union-funded conservation initiative. The EU put €12m in the project pot. This is yet another example of what the UK gains from EU membership," Guy says.

Political campaigns involve a lot of driving. Guy could end up burning around 300 litres of petrol, which would produce around 700 kg of carbon dioxide.

"A healthy tree absorbs around 20 kg of CO2 a year once it reaches maturity. Young trees absorb far less, so that's why I am saying I will personally pay to plant a tree for each kg of CO2 my campaign produces.

"That could be 700 trees. And - if the Woodland Trust let me - I will join the planting effort myself!" Guy says.

Guy is keen to introduce himself to constituents, and is available for (live) interview and commentary on any local or national political issue. Please contact him on 07828 736 193 (also WhatsApp).
