Article: Oct 8, 2019By Lord William Wallace in Liberal Democrat VoiceThis feels like the endgame for Brexit - and quite possibly for Boris Johnson. Briefings in Sunday papers on how the prime minister will refuse to resign when Parliament next votes him down - remember, he hasn't won a single vote yet - to force the Queen to dissolve Parliament and let him fight an election on the 'betrayal' of Brexit suggest that he doesn't expect the latest negotiations to succeed, and doesn't know how to evade the terms of the Benn 'Surrender' Act.

Page: Sep 11, 2019The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no-one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity.
The United Kingdom has a proud tradition of fairness. Many of the most fundamental components of our modern society were created by Liberals, such as the introduction of state pensions, unemployment benefits, health insurance and free secondary education. It is now hard to imagine what this country would be like without those things, but when Liberals introduced them they were regarded as radical ideas that threatened the status quo. More recently Liberal Democrats have continued to challenge both Labour and the Conservatives on crucial matters such as the invasion of Iraq and for Hard Brexit.

High Peak Borough Council is currently considering a new contract for bin collection for the next few years. Some councils only collect residents' 'black bins' every three weeks which has resulted in many complaints and people paying privately for extra waste collections.

Article: Jan 18, 2017A new planning application has been put in for the land between the Hanging Gate and Combs reservoir at Cockyard. The proposal is for 14 'holiday accommodation' units, plus a large site manager's house and two other detached dwellings.
There is strong local opposition. It is another challenge to the Neighbourhood Plan for Chapel, now included in the adopted Local Plan for High Peak, as the site is part of the protected area of Green Space.

Article: Jan 17, 2017For too long our NHS has not got the investment it needs. That's why Lib Dem Health spokesperson and former Health Minister Norman Lamb MP has called for straight talking on the crisis, and suggested an extra penny for a new tax dedicated to the NHS and care for the elderly.
Whaley Bridge Councillor David Lomax said, "The frightening truth is the NHS is facing a financial crisis with treatment rationed because of tight resources.
