We regret to report the death of Peter Ashenden, a long term and very active member of the Liberal Democrats.

For many years Peter was a High Peak Borough Councillor representing Blackbrook ward, until he stood down in 1998 because he was working away in the north east. In 2001 he also stood as Parliamentary candidate in High Peak, having previously stood in Stalybridge & Hyde constituency to show the flag.

An accountant by profession Peter was also constituency Treasurer for many years. He was also an indefatigable leaflet deliverer, which he continued to do until his illness was at an advanced stage.

A Memorial Service was held at St Mary's Church, Chinley at 2.00pm on Friday, 27th June. He will be very much missed by everyone who knew him.
