PLEASE SIGN OUR PETITION TO STOP THE CLOSURE OF LOCAL CARE HOMES

You may have heard that seven Care Homes in Derbyshire are under imminent threat of closure - or at least of major disruption to residents - by Derbyshire County Council. One of these, Goyt Valley House in New Mills, is on the list. The others are outside the High Peak, but no less important.

The council are saying that these homes are in need of significant refurbishment and are no longer fit for purpose. The article here gives further details.

Derbyshire care homes closure consultation delayed - BBC News

Councillor Ed Fordham, leader of the Liberal Democrats on Derbyshire County Council, supported by 8 other councillors, has "called in" the proposal such that if enough electors support him the matter will have to be debated fully before any decisions are made.

7,000 signatures are need on the petition to ensure that this debate happens otherwise the council's preferred option (likely to be the permanent closure of these homes) will be rubber-stamped. There are a further 16 council-owned care homes in Derbyshire whose future might also be in jeopardy.

High Peak Liberal Democrat Executive Committee urges all members to sign the online petition to save these care homes from closure and significant disruption. Click on the link below
