PROTEST MARCH ON SATURDAY - DERBYSHIRE TORIES WANT TO CLOSE GOYT VALLEY ADULT CARE HOME, NEW MILLS
Will you join the protest march taking place this Saturday 29th February against the planned closure of the County Council's Adult Care Home at Goyt Valley House, New Mills. The County's Tory administration want to close seven care homes across Derbyshire and Goyt Valley House is the one singled out for closure here in the High Peak.
The Tories are making various dubious claims about the physical condition of these care homes, all underwritten by the totally false statement that the need for care homes is declining. The latter allegation flies in the face of the fact that the numbers of people in the population living into their eighties and nineties is at an all-time high.
The specific case of Goyt Valley House could also be seen as a deliberate snub to us in the High Peak Liberal Democrats. It may be more than coincidence that the catchment area for this particular Care Home happens to cover ALL the Borough and County seats held by Lib Dem Councillors in the High Peak - Cllr Beth Atkins' New Mills/Hayfield County Division ; Cllr Edith Longden's Blackbrook Borouch Ward (Chinley & Buxworth); Cllr Ray Atkins' New Mills West Borough Ward and Cllr David Lomax's Whaley Bridge Borough Ward.
The Protest March begins at Goyt Valley House in Jubilee Street, New Mills SK22 4PA at 11am. It finishes about half a mile away at New Mills Town Hall which is on the corner of Spring Bank and Hall Street. Your participation would be very welcome.
(Please note: one of the Atkins family's two cars will be stationed at their home in Hall Street, so all those who don't want to make the return half mile walk to Goyt Valley House can secure a car lift)
