We want to ensure that continues for our future generations, the ones who never got to vote in 2016 and now want to be heard! So come and join us on Saturday 28th September 2024 in London and be a part of history!

Dramatic Lib Dem gain from 4th place in Sheffield

Pre-2010 this was a Labour / Lib Dem ward with the Lib Dems winning out in 2008, but then the Lib Dem slide started with Labour winning in May 2010. By 2014 the Lib Dems were third and in 2015 fourth. No longer. Congratulations Gail Smith, who previously had been a councillor for this ward 2008-12. Note again the slump in the Ukip vote, this time in a ward where the party had moved up to being the challenger to Labour in recent years.

The Liberal Democrats will fight Brexit. Labour is not doing its job

More than two months have passed since the referendum and those of us who campaigned to remain have had some long, hard thinking to do. For Theresa May and the Conservatives, the painstaking task of delivering Brexit has begun - or at least it should have. For Labour, it is still deciding whether it's even a pro-European party. Owen Smith has made clear he wants it to be, but Jeremy Corbyn's ambivalence was plain for all to see in the referendum campaign, and he has already made clear he wants to see the Brexit process get underway.

Tim Farron MP writes…A Liberal Democrat plan for Britain in Europe

Yesterday I announced a plan to keep Britain at the heart of Europe. First and foremost, I believe the British people should be given the right to vote on the government's negotiated Brexit deal. Voting for a departure is not the same as voting for a destination. This is not an attempt to re-run the first referendum; we must respect the result. But the British people should be allowed to choose what comes next, to ensure it is right for them, their families, their jobs and our country. Our relationship with Europe affects our economy, our security, climate change, our influence in the world and so much more.

Targeting Plus: building a lasting Liberal Democrat recovery

Targeting Plus: that's the name for a new strategy for rebuilding the party set out in a pamphlet published today. It is based on the four pillars of building a larger core vote for the party, increasing the party's capacity to campaign, creating a new model for local party development and fostering innovation.

Nick Clegg: ‘Michael Gove went from charm personified to hiding in the toilet'

In this exclusive extract from his new book, the former deputy prime minister talks about how difficult it is to get things done in Whitehall. Especially when you're up against an ideologue education secretary with a team of 'unhinged' advisers Part one: 'No wonder there was a Nick Clegg looking sad website' Making change is not easy: it is an art, not a science. As junior partners in a coalition and having been out of power for decades, the Liberal Democrats had to learn quickly how to get things done in a system that can resist change at every turn. The coalition government was, of course, a unique experiment in British politics with some unusual features, not least the need to secure agreement across the leadership of two parties. Unsurprisingly much of the significant change that came about during the coalition involved trade-offs and compromises.
